From Dr. Johnson:

It's hard to believe that it was 30 years ago I moved to Vancouver and began practicing at the Vision Center. It's been an honor and a pleasure to have seen many of your families for two, and even three, generations. It's been a good run but my last day seeing patients was Friday, July 30th. I have valued my relationship with you, my patients. I thank you for your trust and confidence in allowing me to care for your vision and for many years of loyalty and friendship.

When I made the decision to retire I wanted to be certain that you continue to receive the best care possible. I reached out to a doctor that I know personally and that I have confidence in as both an optometrist and as a genuinely caring person. I am blessed to inform you that Dr. Leah Ray will be assuming the practice with my unreserved recommendation. Like myself Dr. Ray chose to further her education after graduation by completing a residency in a VA Medical Center. In addition to her qualities of thoughtfulness  and compassion, that commitment to clinical skill is what makes her an excellent optometrist. I know Dr. Ray looks forward to meeting each of you.

I want to thank the staff I've had over the years for their commitment to our practice and to you, our patients. My office manager of 20 years, Janice, will be staying on in her role as coordinator. The office location and phone number will remain the same. What will change are Dr. Ray's plans to give the office a new coat of paint, add electronic records, some new equipment, and other improvements to modernize the practice and improve your experience.

While I look forward to enjoying retirement I will miss spending time with you as your eye doctor. I wish you and your family health and happiness.

About Dr. Ray:

Dr. Leah Ray was born and raised in Seattle, WA. After high school, she moved to McMinnnville, Oregon where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in biology at Linfield College. By the end of college, she had realized that eyecare was her passion and went on to Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, OR. During optometry school, Dr. Ray served as secretary of Amigos Eyecare and had the opportunity to participate in 2 mission trips, performing eyecare to underserved populations in Guatemala and Ecuador.

After earning her Doctorate of Optometry degree, Dr. Ray completed a residency at the American Lake VA in Lakewood, Washington. She loved working with the veterans and continued to provide care there part time for seven additional years, despite the long commute from Vancouver.

Dr. Ray has practiced at several locations in the Vancouver area. She served as the society president for the local Southwest Society of the Optometric Physicians of Washington from 2012-2015.

Dr. Ray loves meeting and getting to know new people and finding the very best eyecare solutions for each person. She is so grateful for the opportunity to take over for Dr. Johnson at The Vision Center and she cannot wait to meet all of the patients here.

Dr. Ray and her husband have 2 school aged children and they have lived in Vancouver since 2004. In her free time, Leah enjoys running, working with animals, playing volleyball, and puzzles.
